The forty-second writer on the blog is Clare Girvan.
Clare escaped from inner city teaching in Birmingham last century to live in a pretty Devon estuary town with her journalist husband and three cats, and pursue her long-awaited writing career. She has won prizes in many short story competitions, including the Ian St James, Fish and Asham Awards. Originally trained as a stage designer, she keeps in touch with her theatrical roots by writing plays, which vary in length from one minute to two hours. Many have won competitions and been performed in various locations around the country, particularly in Cambridge’s drama festivals, where her one-acters seem to do quite well. Currently, she has two monologues, a one- acter and two full length plays entered in competitions, on the dubious theory that if you fire enough arrows, one will hit. She is a member of three writers´ groups and decorates Fabergé-style eggs and runs a local Craft Fair as an occasional sideline.
Remaining ambitions: to have a play produced in a London theatre, publish the/a novel and win the Bridport short story competition. And the Booker would be nice. …
